We have seen accelerating innovations in the last 2 decades – which we did not see for the last 100 years. If we go by “Moore’s Law”, we will see unbelievable technologies and solutions, which we can’t imagine today. However, what we can imagine today is that most of these upcoming technologies will be serviced through I.P. Networks for Cities and Buildings. Therefore, it is so much imperative that we network our Cities & Buildings ( whether wired or wireless- it really does not matter) to have a future-proof infrastructure in place.
There are already certification agencies ( like 5G certified buildings) which audit the current and planned projects for their readiness for the same. Such properties command high valuations due to their readiness.
Lighting can be the main driver to achieve such networked Cities and Buildings as this is natural to find a light point at a maximum of 3 meters apart in a building and at a maximum of 40 meters apart in outdoor settings. Lighting is always powered- therefore, the perfect host for creating the I.P. Network. This is not a good idea to keep computer networking separate and electrical network separate as this increases the maintenance issues of both the networks. A converged network helps lighting feed power to computer networks and also allows it to become the carrier for access points, data, and any future similar functions. Following are the two main options available today for networked lighting
PoE Lighting or Ethernet networked Lighting, where Lighting fixtures draw power and data from Computer cabling networks ( Cat6 / Cat 6A/ Cat 7/ Cat 8) cables as applicable. In current technology, very secure and inter-operate operations of lighting, HVAC controls, Access controls, CCTV controls, Audio controls etc can be achieved on this network, without need of any gateways or inverters. The network switches can also host firmware/ gateways for wireless sensors and devices. In future, if Ethernet network is available till LED Lighting Fixtures, these fixtures can be used for Li-Fi networks without any need of changing teh cabling infrastructure.
Wireless IOT networks. Very careful design is required to be done to take care of redundancy, back haul, network security/ latency and inter-operability. I-Mesh solves all these issues with a massive IOT network connecting thousands of devices without a need of gateway and also having provision to include multiple gateways for enhancing the speed of communication and inter connectivity of various services.
